BC Rod and Gun Show Alive and Well!

Clover Ventures Ltd. dba the BC Rod and Gun Show is planning to go ahead with its 2nd Annual Show at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds on Friday, April 15th-17th, 2016. The decision to go ahead with the Show was based on the recent confirmation on Friday, March 18th, that the City of Surrey FEST committee and the Surrey RCMP approved the security plan for the show. The organizers are awaiting the final stamp of approval at a City Council meeting scheduled for April 11th.

On March 10th, the City of Surrey sent organizers the following email message:

“There is a misconception that this permit was denied by Council, it was actually referred back to staff to work with the Applicant in order to provide Council with some missing information. Council has asked the Applicant to provide the following information in order to approve this Temporary Use Permit:

– A Detailed Event Security Plan reviewed and approved by the RCMP; and

– A breakdown of what items will be sold in terms of the kinds of firearms and ammunition.

Once Council has received the missing components to this application, they will be able to approve this Permit knowing it will be a safe event for all Surrey residents.”

The organizers were allowed the sales of non-restricted firearms only, which means no handguns, no ammunition, no restricted or prohibited firearms.

The organizers are working on providing an all round family friendly event for the outdoor sports enthusiast (angler, hunter and outdoorsmen).  Aside from new and used fishing and hunting vendors, there will be Free 3D Archery, where expert archers show you how to shoot a bow,  a variety of other vendors that sell locally made products like home made Cowichan Sweaters, honey and smoked salmon, as well as Bradley smokers will be offering samples. Plus, there will be a large exhibit from local military veterans which are part of the Canadian Military Education Centre. One of the star attractions is a fundraising casting pond, with part proceeds going to the Semiahmoo Fish Hatchery that will see up to ten adults get a chance to cast to win a $50,000 Dodge Ram Truck from Willowbrook Chrysler, as well the pond will have other amazing prizes anyone can win including, Fishing Rods , Lures, Bradley Smokers, a Deluxe Wall Tent and a Boat. We will also have a fishing pond where young and old anglers can try and catch and take home a trout.  More exciting event information to follow.

The first BC Rod and Gun Show / Rod & Gun swap is under our belt and a “Big Thank You” to all of our visitors, exhibitors and vendors for helping us make the show a success!

More than 8,500 visitors attended the show and many of them left with some amazing deals on firearms and fishing gear as well as a host of other items. With new vendors in the Rod and Gun Swap everyday, there was always something new to see and or purchase. Next year we will be offering weekend passes.

There were nine people who had a final cast to win the Willowbrook Chrysler Charity Casting Pond grand prize truck worth $50,000. Unfortunately no one was able to drive it home but one contestant came extremely close by bouncing the lure off the edge of the 8″ ring.

Near the beginning of the casting a shy five-year-old girl won a boat in the casting pond, courtesy of Backwater Boats. Her father Tony (at left in photo) was really happy. Continue reading
